Pytchley Cricket Club Square Preparations Case Study 2017

20/02/2017 - Stage one. Removal of the winter fence off.

23/02/2017 - Stage two. Tops off with a very sharp rotary mower.

07/03/2017 - Stage three. Winter fertiliser added to give it some life before spring fertiliser in 6-8 weeks.

09/03/2017 - Stage four. Tops off again and rolled with wicket mower. Outfield cut today.

14/03/2017 - Stage five. Rolled with wicket roller.

15/03/2017 - Stage six. Cut a little shorter and rolled with 0.5 tonne roller.

23/03/2017 - Stage seven. Scarified lightly in two directions and cleaned over with rotary mower.

30/03/2017 - Stage eight. First cut with a cylinder mower. Weed and feed applied.

31/03/2017 - Stage nine. Mowed ready for heavy roller on Saturday.

03/04/2017 - Stage ten. Heavy roller over the square and outfield.

04/04/2017 - Stage 11. 3rd go over the square with the heavy roller. It's pretty firm for the time of year.

10/04/2017 - Stage 12. Raked over twice, mowed, fertilised and watered. It's had a bit off a beating getting it ready for this early game so I'll leave it alone for 10 days now.

12/04/2017 - Stage 13. Pitch chosen and cut shorter than the square by a few mm. Raked out and cut again. Pitch watered ready for a roll tomorrow.

12/04/2017 - Stage 14. Pitch cut, raked and rolled. Square cut.

14/04/2017 - Stage 15. Late evening pitch raked and cut to 8mm. Light

15/04/2017 - Stage 16. Cut with the wicket mower to 6mm.

17/04/2017 - Stage 17. Pitch raked and cut to between 4mm and 6mm. Rolled and marked out. Square cut and we might get to actually play cricket!

19/04/2017 - Stage 18. Pitch repaired, raked and brushed. Square cut and we're ready for the next game. After some spongy bounce on Sunday I checked the pitch and it was a little thatchy on a length at the road end so I've removed as much as possible.
